John Ernest Warner, 87, of Grove City, Florida, and formerly of Kendallville died Friday, December 13, 2019, at his residence.
He was born October 26, 1932, in Auburn to Ernest A. and Thelma S. (Klink) Warner.
On May 23, 1953, in Kendallville he married Phyllis Koon. Mr. Warner retired in 1980 from International Harvester in Fort Wayne and was a farmer.
He honorably served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to1954 during the Korean War.
John founded Beacon Baptist Church of Kendallville in the living room of his home. He is a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Englewood, Florida, where he served as a deacon.
Surviving are his wife Phyllis Warner of Grove City, Florida; five daughters, Diana Pankop of Kendallville, Debbie (Jim) King of Wolcottville, Darlene Warner of Albion, Marsha (Tim) Matheney of New Concord, Ohio, and Marilyn (Richard) Shields of Port Charlotte, Florida; two sons, Mark Warner of Albion and John (Kathy) Warner, Jr. of LaOtto; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Glora (Robert) Hartman of Hudson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Warner in May, 2014.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Destiny Family of Faith, 445 North Riley Street, Kendallville with the Rev. Wayne Murrow, Pastor Shawn Kondas, and Pastor Brent Wedding officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery, Corunna.
Honor guard services will be provided by the Veterans Honor Guard and active duty members of the U.S. Air Force.
Honorary pallbearer is Travis Warner. Active pallbearers are Kenny Pankop, Trent Wert, Drew Warner, Mike Gamble, Daniel Matheney, and David Day.
Calling is Tuesday, December 17, 2019, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to the family.
