John E. Scott, Sr., 61, of LaGrange died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at 4:03 p.m. in the emergency room of Parkview LaGrange Hospital.

Mr. Scott worked at Hostetler Tire in LaGrange. He was a member of the Sturgis Baptist Church in Sturgis, Michigan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1968 to 1980

He was born June 27, 1948, in Kendallville to Eldon & Anna (Rice) Scott.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, John E. Scott, Jr. & Kari Scott of New Haven; and a daughter and son-law, Reynold & Donna R. Yordy of Thompsons Station, Tennessee; four grandchildren; one brother and a sister-in-law, Robert & Elizabeth Scott of Tucson, Arizona; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Ann & Larry Ulrey of Fort Wayne; Cecilia & Philip Schmit of Fort Wayne; and Margaret & Allen Godsell of Kendallville; and the mother of his children, Linda Stauffer of Churubusco.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Eldon Scott, Jr., Tom Scott and Paul Scott, and a sister, Patricia Sweet.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Pastor Paul Delmark of the Sturgis Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Avilla. Military graveside services will be provided by the Indiana Army National Guard, Military Funeral Honors Program.

Calling will be Friday, October 16, 2009, from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home.
