John Ramey, 82, of Wolcottville died Thursday, February 19, 2009, at 2:18 a.m. in his residence. He had been in failing health for nine months.
Mr. Ramey worked as a coal miner in Kentucky. In 1964, he moved to Wolcottville and retired from the Starcraft Boat Factory in Wolcottville. He was a member of the Church of the Stone in Wolcottville.
He was born August 8, 1926, in Rockport, Kentucky, to Sam & Hannie (Conley) Ramey. He was married to Hazel Prater in Kentucky. She preceded him in death on January 14, 1977, after 30 years of marriage. He was then married to Virginia "Granny" Hicks in Wolcottville. She preceded him in death on November 28, 2007, after 30 years of marriage.
Surviving are a daughter, Thelma Ramey of Wolcottville; a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Ruby Ramey of Rome City; two stepdaughters, Patricia Gail Wade of Kendallville and Pamela Bloomfield, of Rome City; three stepsons, Willis Hicks of Wolcottville, Dewey Hicks of North Carolina, and Miles Hicks of Virginia; 26 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren and two brothers, Ancil Ramey of Kentucky, and Kendall Ramey of Wolcottville.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Ramey; four infant children, Amos Ramey, Jerry Ramey, Roger Ramey, and Linda Kay Ramey; five brothers, Lewis Ramey, Tandy Ramey, Orville Ramey, Turner Ramey, and Lenzy Ramey; and a sister, Ethel Stark.
Funeral services will be Monday, February 23, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of the Stone, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville, with Pastor Mike Stanley officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange.
Calling will be Sunday, February 22, 2009, from 2-4 & 5-7 p.m. in the Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville.
