November 30, 1919 – April 28, 2008
John E. Cook, 88, of Adams Lake died Monday, April 28, 2008, at 11:40 p.m. in Kendallville Manor HealthCare Center in Kendallville.
Mr. Cook was a lifetime resident of Adams Lake. He graduated from Wolcottville High School, and was a US Navy veteran, serving during World War II. He was a self-employed carpenter, and worked as a lineman for REMC and Gilbert Construction for 25 years. He was a lifetime member of the LaGrange American Legion Post.
He was born November 30, 1919, at Adams Lake to Andrew J. and Bessie (Ream) Cook. On October 5, 1940, in LaGrange, he married Dorothy Hall. She survives at Adams Lake.
Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, James A. and Becky Cook of Adams Lake; a daughter, Jonquil Vincent of Atlanta; a son-in-law, Tom Atkins of LaGrange; ten grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a brother and sister-in-law, Andrew J. "Bud" and Donna Cook of Fort Wayne.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Judith Atkins; two sons, John A. Cook and Jerry Cook; three sisters, Pansye Racht, Mercedes Babbis, and Margaret Sessler; and three brothers, Bob Cook, Maynard Cook, and Bill Cook.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 2, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at the Woodruff Grove United Methodist Church, with Rev. Brad Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Woodruff Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the LaGrange American Legion Post.
Casketbearers will be Jeff Marshall, Phil Evers, Jeremy Cook, Don Miller, Greg Racioppi, and Chris Vosburgh.
Calling will be Thursday, May 1, 2008, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Preferred memorials are to the American Cancer Society.
Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville is in charge of arrangements.
