Obituary

Joe Tackett, 99, of Corunna, died Friday, December 29, 2023, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville.

He was born December 16, 1924, in Pikeville, Kentucky to Sheridan and Sarah (Hall) Tackett.

On April 11, 1946, in Drift, Kentucky, he married Anna Mae Stephens. She preceded him in death on September 11, 2017.

He honorably served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Tackett retired after 40 years from Newnam Foundry in Kendallville. Prior to that he had worked in the coal mines in Kentucky.

He attended Little Flossie Old Regular Baptist Church near Kendallville.

Joe enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, and gardening. He loved his church family. When he was able, he visited with sick members of the church weekly. His greatest enjoyment was his grandchildren.

Surviving are three daughters, Joan (Buford) Shepherd of Sparta, Tennessee, Mary Rafferty of Corunna, and Sarah "Deb" (Steve) Faulkner of Corunna; three sons, Denver (Beverly) Tackett of Avilla, Clyde Tackett of Corunna, and Michael (Traci VanGorden) Tackett of Bronson, Michigan; 12 grandchildren, Lisa, Johnny, Sandi, Michelle, Jacklyn, Brandi, Jenny, Charity, Matt, Joe, Tammy, and Lee; numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; a sister, Gertie Sawyer of Kendallville; and two brothers, Walker (Willa) Tackett of Kendallville and Charlie (Anna) Tackett of Kentucky.

He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Theresa Stienbarger; two sisters, Ruthie Hunter and Sola Williams; and seven brothers, Frill Tackett, Garrett Tackett, Jay Tackett, Lee Hunter, Robert Tackett, Earl Tackett, and Johnny Tackett.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Regan Ford of First Church of God in Kendallville officiating.

Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville.

Honor Guard services will be provided by the Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation is Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday, January 3, 2024, beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service all at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to the Noble County Humane Society.
