Calling: Thursday, June 13, 2013 - 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel. Rosary service at 3:30 p.m. Calling also 9-10 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. ************************************************************ Joan Elizabeth Weaver, 84, of Big Long Lake died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at 10:13 a.m. in Presence Sacred Heart Home, Avilla.
She returned to this area in 1988, coming from Arizona.
Mrs. Weaver worked as an office manager for doctors in Virginia and Arizona. She retired as secretary of St. Gaspar Catholic Church in Rome City.
She was a member of St. Gaspar Catholic Church, Rome City and the Rosary Sodality.
She was born March 11, 1929, in Fort Wayne to Charles and Bernadine (Denzil) Dirig.
On June 10, 1950, in Fort Wayne she married Robert M. Weaver. He preceded her in death on June 6, 2013.
Surviving are two sons, Lynn (Laura) Weaver of Adams Lake and Gary Weaver of Fort Wayne; and a daughter, Diane (Tom) Cassady of Arvada, Colo; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Charlene (Tom) Strawser of Indianapolis, Clarita (Dick) Miller of Fort Wayne, and Agnes (Dick) Hollar of Comstock, Wisconsin; and a brother-in-law, Jack Schall of Fort Wayne.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Ann Schall and Dorothy Jean Bennett; two brothers-in-law, Chuck Kocks and Tom Bennett; and a grandson.
Mass of Christian Burial is Friday, June 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. in St. Gaspar Catholic Church, Rome City with co-celebrants, Fr. Matt Jozefiak, Fr. Jim Miller, and Fr. Charles Mullen officiating. Burial will be in St. Gaspar Catholic Cemetery.
Calling is Thursday, June 13, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville, with a Rosary service to be held at 3:30 p.m. Calling will also be from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Presence Sacred Heart Home or masses to the church.
