Obituary

Joan A. Subzda, 79, of Rome City died Saturday, November 17, 2018, at her residence.

She was born May 24, 1939, in LaGrange County to Dale T. and Gladys Una (Reed) North.

On July 19, 1980, in Topeka she married Edward Thomas "Tom" Subzda. He survives in Rome City.

Mrs. Subzda had worked at Uniform Printing and Kendallville Custom Printing, both in Kendallville.

She was a member of Open Door Community Church in Wolcottville, past president of the Rome City American Legion Post #381 Auxiliary, a life member of Kendallville VFW Post #2749 Auxiliary, and ministered to the Chain of Lakes inmates with her son-in-law.

Also surviving are a daughter, Christina Linn "Chrissy" (Gary) Mast of Helmer; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; a sister, Mary (Edward) Mawhorter of British Columbia, Canada; a brother, Jim (Sandy) North of Wolcottville; and two sisters-in-law, Betty North of Marion and Lois North of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, James Bradley Perkins and Andrew Wayne Perkins; and two brothers, Robert North and Harold North.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville with Rev. Keith Perry and Rev. Jim Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery near Rome City.

Pallbearers are Jonathan Tuttle, Brandon Tuttle, Aaron Tuttle, Jamie Owens, Roger Mawhorter, and David Shull.

Calling is Tuesday, November 20, 2018, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Preferred memorials are to Open Door Community Church. American Cancer Society, or to the Rome City American Legion Post #381.
