Obituary

Joan E. Bortner, 71, of Wolcottville died Wednesday, August 9, 2017, in her residence.

She was born February 25, 1946, in Kendallville to Maurice and Thelma (Fortman) Cass. They preceded her in death.

On July 14, 1968, in Brimfield she married Ronnie D. Bortner. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Bortner was a beautician in her own home for many years.

She was a member of St. Gaspar Catholic Church in Rome City.

Surviving are five sons, Gary (Vickie) Fry of Kendallville, Randy (Paula) Fry of LaGrange, Mike (Heather) Bortner of Wolcottville, Eric Bortner of Rome City, and John (Nicole) Bortner of Albion; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Pat (Max) Pfaffman of Kendallville; and a brother, Tom (Pam) Cass of Elkhart.*

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Gaspar Catholic Church, Rome City with Father Bernard Ramenaden officiating. Burial will be in St. Gaspar Catholic Cemetery.

There will be no calling prior to the mass.

Preferred memorials are to St. Gaspar Catholic Church or masses to the church.
