Jimmy Ray Sells, 57 of Jackson, Kentucky passed Saturday, September 12, 2026, surrounded by his family at L-TACH in Hazard, Kentucky.
He was born to Herman Ray Sells and Tilda Jean (Slone) Sells on August 27, 1969, in Kendallville, Indiana at McCray Hospital.
Jimmy moved to Kentucky in 1999, where he made a life filled with hard work, family, friends, and the things he loved most.
For many years, Jimmy worked at Miller Brothers Coal in Rousseau, Kentucky. He drove a Triple 7 rock truck and took great pride in his work. He remained there until a tragic accident in 2006 changed the course of his life.
Jimmy was happiest outdoors. He loved to fish, hunt, ride four-wheelers, and spend time enjoying the great outdoors. He never needed much to be happy, just a little time outside doing the things he loved.
One of Jimmy’s greatest passions was Kentucky basketball. He was the biggest Kentucky Wildcat fan you could ever meet. He always kept everyone up to date on the Kentucky schedule, scores, and how the Wildcats were doing. If there was a Kentucky game on, you could be sure Jimmy knew all about it and was cheering them on.
Jimmy will be remembered for his hard-working spirit, his love of the outdoors, his loyalty to the Kentucky Wildcats, and the many memories he made with the people who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his fiancé, Angel Lovins; a daughter, Chelsea Pongratz; two sisters, Debra (Tim) Smith and Kimberly (Russell) Schwarz; a brother, Herman (Mary Brown) Sells; three grandchildren, Grayson Williams, Ivy Pongratz, and Weston Dillon; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Mount Calvary United Baptist Church, 4175 S 1175 E, LaGrange with an evening service at 6 p.m. Visitation will also be on Monday, September 21, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the church.
Funeral services will follow the visitation on Monday at 12 p.m. at the church.
Burial will follow at Wright Cemetery near Hudson.
Pallbearers will be Tim Slone, Shannon Rummel, Dallas Dean, Brandon Garrison, Marvin Hoover, Anthony Terry, Josh Hoover, and Ricky Hoover.
In honor of Jimmy, the family requests that you wear your favorite Kentucky gear to the services.
