Obituary

Jerry Lee Frye, 72, of Kendallville died Sunday, February 21, 2016, in Parkview Regional Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was a lifetime area resident.

Mr. Frye retired after 39 ½ years at Flint & Walling in Kendallville.

He was a 40-year member of Crosspointe Church of the Nazarene in Kendallville, a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, and active with the East Noble Band Boosters. He was a past member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 31 in Angola where he served as commander for five years.

Jerry adored his grandchildren. One of his biggest joys in life was helping others, whether it was mowing their yard, snow blowing their driveway, or volunteering to put a roof on their house.

He was born March 26, 1943, in LaGrange County to Samuel J. and Bracey Alice (Parker) Frye.

On July 2, 1967, in Kendallville he married Darlene May Mapes. She survives in Kendallville.

Also surviving are a daughter, Laura (Doug) Nowels of Kendallville; a son, David Frye of Kendallville; five grandchildren, Korey Nowels, Meghan Nowels, Alissa Frye, Evan Frye, and Collin Frye; a great-granddaughter, Nalani Lipford; a brother, Jack S. (Melodee) Frye of Longwood, Florida; a half-brother, Robert S. (Dawn) Frye of Angola; a stepsister, Kathy (Tim) King of Pleasant Lake; three sisters-in-law, Marilyn Barrett of Owensville, Jean Frye of Kendallville, and Marlene Kay Mason of Kendallville; four brothers-in-law, Richard (Celine) Mapes of Oceanside, California, Dean (Diane) Mapes of Fremont, Mike (Diane) Mapes of Auburn, and Howard (Cheryl) Mapes of Kendallville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepbrother, Richard Wilcox; and two brothers-in-law, Reverend James A. Mapes and Donald Mapes.

Funeral services will be Friday, February 26, 2016, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Jim Kane and Pastor Rich Secor officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Calling will be Thursday, February 25, 2016, from 2 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to Parkview Hospice.
