Jerry Ray Combs, 53, of LaGrange and formerly of Wolcottville died Saturday, December 31, 2011, in his residence. He had been ill for several years.
He was born April 3, 1958, in LaGrange to Leburn "Lee" and Lucenia (Moore) Combs.
He previously worked at Reliable Tool in Kendallville.
Jerry liked gardening, birds, hunting, and being outdoors. He enjoyed music and playing his guitar. He especially loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Courtney & Jeff Thorp of Auburn; three granddaughters, Lexis Thorp, Chevi Thorp, and Grace Thorp all of Auburn; a grandson, Brandon Thorp of Auburn; his father, Reverend Leburn "Lee" Combs of Wolcottville; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Lillian & John Powell of Findlay, Ohio, Joanna & 1st Sgt. Danny Conley of Fort Riley, Kansas, Shronna & Mike Mast of Rome City; and four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Reverend Clarence L. & Judy Combs of Wolcottville, Kenith Combs of Kendallville, Danny Combs of Wolcottville, and Del & Wendy Combs of Wolf Lake. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucenia Combs on November 12, 2011.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 5, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Five Corners Baptist Church, Wolcottville, with Rev. Willie Collins and other attending ministers officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Thorp, Tom Tuttle, Clarence Combs, Danny Combs, A.J. Conley, Josh Combs, Keith Spriggs, Keith Tuttle, and Shay Combs. Active pallbearers will be Kenith Combs, Del Combs, Dave VanHoosier, John Powell, 1st Sgt. Danny Conley, and Mike Mast.
Calling is Wednesday, January 4, 2011, from 2 to 9 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to services on Thursday.
Preferred memorials are to the family.
