Jean Baker, 89, of Kendallville died Monday, January 15, 2018, at 8:25 a.m. at Parkview Regional Hospital, Fort Wayne.
She was born August 14, 1928, in Kendallville to Forrest and Leoma (Stonebraker) France.
On September 10, 1950, in Kendallville she married David Baker. He survives in Kendallville.
Mrs. Baker and her husband were long-time owners and operators of Bakers' Fruit & Flower Farm in Kendallville. She would rise early every morning to make fresh donuts for their customers.
She was a lifelong member of Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville and a member of Tri Kappa.
Jean enjoyed knitting and made special Christmas stockings for all of her family. She was known as the "Cookie Lady" at Trinity Church and served on the hospitality team until recently.
Also surviving are two sons, Brad (Charna) Baker of Kendallville and Brian (Doris) Baker of Kendallville; four daughters, Barb (Eric) Burkhardt of Fort Wayne, Beth (Noah) Miller of Columbia South Carolina, Brenda (Mike) Jansen of Kendallville, and Becky (Paul) Brown of Kendallville; 11 grandchildren, Rob Baker, Drew (Ashley) Baker, Cal Baker, Nik (Beth) Burkhardt, Nate (Kayla) Burkhardt, Sarah Baker, Emily (Tim) Ryan, Riley Miller, Melinda (Joel) Pippenger, Kevin (Amanda) Jansen, and Claire Brown; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Preston of Kendallville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Fleisher; and a grandson, Cory Brown.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 19, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Church United Methodist, 229 South State Street, Kendallville with Rev. Chris Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Calling is Thursday, January 18, 2018, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
