Jay C. Simmers, 76, of Kendallville, Indiana, died Wednesday, April 23, 2024, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville.

He was born May 27, 1947, in Huntington, Indiana, to Paul J. and Frances (Eddingfield) Simmers. They preceded him in death.

On October 20, 1990, in Albion he married Danita C. (Sutorius) Solero.

Mr. Simmers was a chef and last worked at Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.

Jay loved to cook. He enjoyed reading, watching sports, and was a dog lover.

Surviving are his wife, Danita C. Simmers of Kendallville; a daughter, Heather Rose (Ed) Schwegler of Edgewater, Florida; Coleen (Derek) Ross of LaGrange, and Miriam "Mimi" (Jeff) Bennett of Huntertown; two sons, Ben (Casie) Solero of Wake Forest, North Carolina and Dan (Andi) Solero of Dallas, Texas; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Jan (Mike) Hoffman of Huntington; and a brother, Al (Sharon) Simmers of Roanoke.

Per Jay's wishes, his body has been donated to IU School of Medicine.

A celebration of life service is being planned for a later date.
