Paul James "Jay" Rowlison, 79, of Kendallville died Wednesday, September 26, 2007, at 12:42 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hill, Kendallville. He was a lifetime area resident, and retired after 14 years with the City of Kendallville Street Department. He had served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 86, Kendallville and was a past member of the Executive Committee. He was also a member of Francis Vinyard VFW Post 2749, 40 & 8, and Trinity Church United Methodist, all of Kendallville.
Jay enjoyed shuffleboard and walking. He was often found talking with the construction workers and watching the building progress of Cornerstone Plaza.
Jay was born May 28, 1928, in Stroh, to Paul E. & Dora May (Pierson) Rowlison. On November 26, 1954, in Auburn he married Donnabelle Refner. She survives in Kendallville.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Bruce Hamilton of Auburn; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Catherine Rowlison of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; four grandchildren, April Hoff, Lisa Hamilton, Staci Rowlison, and Tyler Rowlison; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Cora and Willis Tuttle of Auburn, Catherine Kaufman of Angola, and Joan and Richard Huling of Mishawaka.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Donald Rowlison, and five sisters, Geraldine Leonhardt, Pauline Rowlison, Donna Jean Rowlison, Nancy Kay Rowlison, and Betty Arnold.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2007, from 4-8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, with Rev. G. Scott Pattison of Trinity Church United Methodist officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, September 28, 2007, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside military services will be provided by the members of American Legion Post 86 and Francis Vinyard VFW Post 2749.
Preferred memorials are to Trinity Church United Methodist, Parkview Noble Home Health and Hospice, or to Riley Children's Hospital.
Casketbearers will be members of American Legion Post 86, Don Moore, Norbert Franks, Kevin Franks, Bob Dunafin, Brian Bailey, Gary Smith, Don Leighty, and Don Moore, Jr.
