Janice Short, 85, of Elkhart, Indiana died Friday, February 3, 2023, at Brickyard Nursing Home in Elkhart with her family by her side.

She was born March 7, 1937, in Lackey, Kentucky to Felix and Maldie (Ratliff) Patton.

She married the love of her life, Russell Short in Lackey, Kentucky in 1953. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1983.

Janice had worked at King Sealy in Kendallville.

She loved quilting, doing word searches and playing cards with her family.

Surviving are three sons, Felix Short of Wolcottville, Wilts (Serrena) Short of Wolcottville, and Phillip Short of Wolcottville; loving granddaughter and caregiver, Katha Short of Elkhart; eight grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 13 great great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Jimmy Short, Timothy "Scotty" Short, and Darrell Short; two brothers, Samuel Patton and Eddy Patton; two sisters, Patricia Gibson and Georgie Shannon Dalton; and a great great-grandson, Weston Jasso.

Funeral services will be Friday, February 10, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville with Travis Moore officiating.

Burial will follow in Orange Cemetery, Rome City.

Casketbearers are Jeramiah Short, Jeffrey Short, Zach Cook, David Short, Brandon Short, and Brenden Cook.

Visitation will also be on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
