Local business owner, Jane "Grammie" Bateman Whitehair, 84, of Wolcottville died Friday, June 17, 2011, at 1:15 p.m. in Wolcottville at the home of her son, Don, with her family at her side. She had been in failing health for six months.

Mrs. Whitehair was a lifetime area resident. She owned and operated the Wolcottville Laundromat for 45 years.

Jane graduated from the Wolcottville High School. She was a member of the Wolcottville United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 381 Auxiliary in Rome City.

She was affectionately know as Grammie by many. She enjoyed being with people and loved everyone. Her grandchildren were her life. She enjoyed working in the yard and spending time at the cottage on Dallas Lake. She especially enjoyed travelling.

She was born October 10, 1926, in Wolcottville to Samuel and Violet (Iler) Wilson. She married Don R. Bateman, and he preceded her in death in July, 1966. She then married Robert D. Whitehair in 1970, and he preceded her in death in March, 1984.

Surviving are a daughter, Wanda Landers of Wolcottville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sam & Vickie Bateman of Columbus and Don & Melanie Bateman of Wolcottville; ten grandchildren, Curt (Mary Catherine) Landers, Robin (Mike) Todd, Jack (Lori) Landers, Kirk Bateman, Kristin (Jonathan) Martin, Brent Bateman, Ryan Bateman, Christopher (Samantha) Bateman, Heather Bateman, and Chad Bateman; 16 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, a sister, a great granddaughter, Erin Todd; and her companion of 15 years, Jack Duvé.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville, with Rev. Carldean Merrifield officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Wolcottville.

Honorary casketbearers will be Chris Bateman and Chad Bateman. Active casketbearers will be Curt Landers, Jack Landers, Trent Landers, Kirk Bateman, Brent Bateman, Ryan Bateman, and Mike Todd.

Calling is Monday, June 20, 2011, from 4 to 8 pm. in the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Preferred memorials are to the Parkview Noble Hospice Foundation.
