Service: Friday, February 28, 2014 - 3 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.
Calling: Thursday, February 27, 2014 - 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday. ***************************************************************************************** James Edward "Jim" Showen, 70, of Kendallville died Sunday, February 23, 2014, at 11:51 a.m. in St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He had resided in this area since 1956, coming from Texas.
Mr. Showen was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1961 to 1963.
He retired from Colwell in Kendallville and had previously worked at Newnam Foundry in Kendallville and the Flint Gun Shop in Flint.
Jim was a member of Kendallville VFW Post 2749 and Kendallville American Legion Post 86.
He was born May 18, 1943, in Lompoc, California, to Charles and Marion (Beckley) Showen.
On October 13, 1961, in Kendallville he married Brenda Kay Hursey. She preceded him in death on November 22, 2011.
Surviving are a daughter, Rebecca "Becky" (Eric) Daniels of Kendallville; two sons, Marc Showen of Kendallville and Jeff (Laurie) Showen of Hamler, Ohio; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Susie (Mike) Morr of Kendallville and Vickie McKee of Jacksonville, Florida; and two brothers, Scott (Terry) Showen of Kendallville and John (Sandra) Showen of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother and his fiance, Lee Showen and Carol Escher.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 28, 2014, at 3 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Rev. Tom Clothier of First Christian Church, Kendallville officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Honor guard services will be provided by Kendallville VFW Post 2749, Rome City American Legion Post 381, and active duty members of the U.S. Army.
Honorary pallbearers are Marc Showen, Scott Showen, and Jerry Campbell. Active pallbearers are Jeff Showen, Eric Daniels, Mitch Frye, Justin Beechy, Todd Showen, and Ryan Frye.
Calling is Thursday, February 27, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to the services on Friday.
