James Arthur Mapes, Jr., 58, of Kendallville died Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at 11:44 p.m. at Parkview Randallia Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He was born August 4, 1963, in Goshen to James Arthur Mapes, Sr. and Caroline Joann (Sleeper) Mapes. His parents preceded him in death.
As the son of a minister, he has lived in many places with most of his adult life being in Kendallville.
James honorably served in the U.S. Navy from 1981 to 1982.
On August 3, 1985, in Sikeston, Missouri, he married Rebecca Sue "Becky" McDonnold.
He was a journeyman patternmaker at Dalton Foundry in Kendallville.
Mr. Mapes was a member of CrossPointe Family Church in Kendallville.
James enjoyed building models, especially model railroads. He also enjoyed fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Becky Mapes of Kendallville; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Mapes of Kendallville; a son, James Franklin (Dylan Lamartz) Mapes of Kendallville; and two sisters, Pam Bottjer of Kendallville and April Johnson of Kendallville.
Visitation is Monday, September 20, 2021, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at CrossPointe Family Church in Kendallville
The funeral service will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the church with Pastor Rich Secor officiating.
Burial will follow at Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville.
Pallbearers are James Mapes, Dylan Lamartz, Nathan Bottjer, Justin Johnson, Erin Strunk, and Samantha Hewitt.
Honor guard services will be provided by the Veterans Honor Guard.
Preferred memorials are to the funeral home for expenses.
Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville is assisting the family with arrangements.
