Obituary

James Clark Holliday, 89, of Rome City, Indiana, died Monday, September 5, 2022, at his residence with his family at his side.

He was born August 16, 1933, in Carrie, Knott County, Kentucky, to Jim and Nancy (Combs) Holliday.

On August 15, 1953, in Hindman, Kentucky, he married Flora Ritchie. They soon moved to Indiana and have resided in Rome City for 69 years.

Mr. Holliday worked at Newnam Foundry which later became Dalton Foundry in Kendallville and retired after 37 years.

James was an avid Kentucky basketball and East Noble football fan. He enjoyed deer hunting. As a local car racing fan, he began racing at the Avilla Motor Speedway many years ago. He dearly loved his dog and cats.

Surviving are his wife, Flora Holliday of Rome City; two daughters, Nancy (Michael) Bruce of Rome City and Charlene Clark of Wolcottville; four sons, Clark (Roxann) Holliday of Kendallville, David (Dina) Holliday of Rome City, Jason (Mandee) Holliday of Rome City, and Kedrin (Heather) Holliday of Rome City; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; a sister, Wilma Jean Nichols of Kendallville; and a brother Kizer (Vena) Holliday of Arizona.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Wayne Holliday; a son-in-law, Joe Clark; two grandchildren, Shauna Holliday and Chad Holliday; two sisters, Edna Dixon and Elsie Messer; and a brother, Archie Holliday.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville.

A graveside service will be held Friday, September 9, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Orange Cemetery near Rome City with Pastor Lee Ritchie and Chuck Ritchie officiating.

Pallbearers are Ed Clark, Tim Clark, Brad Bauman, Lucas Holliday, Logan Holliday, Austin Holliday, and Eric Bidwell.

Preferred memorials may be directed to the Humane Society of Noble County.
