Obituary

James Otho "Pete" Hillegass, 65, of Kendallville died Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Hillegass worked in industrial maintenance for Omni Source.

Pete enjoyed hunting, fishing, and making and flying model airplanes.

He was born August 13, 1955, in LaGrange to Franklin and Viola (Yarde) Hillegass.

Surviving are a daughter, Angela (James T.) Kirk of Portage; three grandchildren, Jasmine Wright, Misha-el Hillegass, and Nicholi Hillegass; a sister, Janet Pfleidner of Kendallville; a brother, Mike (Connie) Hillegass of Kendallville; two nieces, Tabetha Amburgey and Christina Hillegass; seven nephews, Steve Pfleidner, Jason Pfleidner, Nathan Pfleidner, Paul O'Brien, James O'Brien, Jason O'Brien, and Kadan Hillegass; and a number of great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Bill Pfleidner.

There will be no visitation or services.

Burial will be in Embrey Cemetery near Garrett.

Preferred memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville is assisting the family with arrangements.
