James H. Halbert, 73, of Stroh died Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at 8:25 p.m. at Parkview LaGrange Hospital, LaGrange.
He was born November 19, 1944, in Martin, Kentucky, to James Halbert and Alberta Conn.
On January 30, 1965, in Stroh he married Elizabeth Ann Terry.
Mr. Halbert worked at Dalton Foundry for 34 years. He was also a real estate agent, auctioneer and an IHSAA referee for basketball and softball.
He was a member of the Helmer Independent Baptist Church.
Jim enjoyed cars. He loved his grandchildren and supported them by attending their sports events.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Halbert of Stroh; a son, Jimmy (Reginna) Halbert of Kendallville; three daughters, Robin Pritchett of Stroh, Paula (Rodney) Ramey of LaGrange, and Pamela (Jerry) Fish of Hudson; ten grandchildren, Zachary (Cristal) Ramey, Andrea (Brandon) Bauman, Damon Miller, Seth Fish, Cassandra Halbert, Samantha Fish, Eyan Pritchett, Corey Halbert, Clayton Halbert, and Shelby Fish; three great-grandchildren, Aubrey Rose Bauman, Camden Noah Bauman, and Nolan James Ramey; his mother, Alberta Blackburn of Drift, Kentucky; five sisters, Brenda (Mac) Bolen of Drift, Kentucky, Linda (Donnie) Shannon of Drift, Kentucky, Freda (Ray) Hagans of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, Sherry (Virgil) Paige of McDowell, Kentucky, and Debra (Lynn) Roberts of Fenton, Michigan; and four brothers, Ronnie (Helen) Blackburn of Drift, Kentucky, Michael Blackburn of Drift, Kentucky, Terry Blackburn of Drift, Kentucky, and Donald Ray (Helen) Holbrook of Ypsilanti, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Jack Conn and James Halbert, Jr.; and his grandparents that raised him, Merland and Mary Conn.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 16, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Rick Davis of the Helmer Independent Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will Hillard Gayheart and John Torez. Active pallbearers will be Zachary Ramey, Damon Miller, Seth Fish, Eyan Pritchett, Clayton Halbert, and Jarred Tuttle
Calling is Sunday, July 15, 2018, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
