James R. Grinn, 83, of Kendallville died Tuesday, December 4, 2007, in Kendallville Manor HealthCare Center.
Jim served with the US Coast Guard from 1943 to 1946. He then received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1950 from Evansville University.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed University of Evansville basketball and boating on the Ohio River. He was a member of the Evansville Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Hadi Temple where he participated in the Drum and Bugle Corp. He was an active member of Old North United Methodist Church in Evansville until moving to Kendallville in 1994, at which time he and his wife, Betty, became members of Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville.
He was born January 28, 1924, in Hobart, Indiana to Charles "Fritz" & Mary (Kilroy) Grinn. In 1948, he married Betty Jane Pemberton.
Surviving are his wife, Betty J. Grinn of Kendallville; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike & Teena Grinn of Plano, Illinois; one daughter and son-in-law, Mindy & Keith Hoffar of Wolcottville; and three grandchildren, Katrina Grinn, Clinton Hoffar, and Lauren Hoffar.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
A memorial service will be held Friday, December 7, 2007, at 5 pm at Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville with Rev. G. Scott Pattison officiating.
A gathering of friends will be held from 3 to 5 pm at the church. Preferred memorials are to the University of Evansville Alumni Scholarship, 1800 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville, Indiana, 47701, or Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville.
Arrangements are by Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, Indiana.
