Obituary

James Philip "Phil" Devine, 90, of Rome City died Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at 4:45 a.m. in Parkview LaGrange Hospital, LaGrange.

He was born May 5, 1926, in Wabash to Mark and Anne (Noonan) Devine.

On October 27, 1948, in Wabash he married Mary Jo Alexander.

Mr. Devine served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in Germany.

He moved to Kendallville in 1970 from Wabash and later moved to Rome City.

He had worked in sales for Ayr Way Industries near Wawaka which then became Amro in Kendallville for 15 years. He also worked at Haney's Glass and Culligan, both in Kendallville. In 1980, he retired from the Chandler House.

Phil was a member of St. Gaspar Catholic Church, Rome City American Legion Post 381, and Kendallville VFW Post 2749.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Mary Jo Alexander Devine; two sons, Alex Devine of Wolcottville and Tim (Cindy) Devine of Howe; three grandchildren, Dustin Devine, Nicole (Eric) Devine Miller, and Tiffany Devine; and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Jane Forrester of Lagro and Judith Cleaver of Stuart, Florida; and a brother, Joseph Devine of LaGro.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Devine Glass; a son-in-law, Rob Glass; a sister, Ellen McAllister; and a brother Luke Devine.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 7, 2017, at 12 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville with Father Bernard Ramenaden of St. Gaspar Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in St. Gaspar Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

Honor guard services will be provided by Rome City American Legion Post 381, Kendallville VFW Post 2749, and active duty members of the U.S. Army.

Calling is Friday, April 7, 2017, from 10 to 12 p.m. in the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association or to St. Gaspar Catholic Church.
