Obituary

James A. "Jim" Cook, Jr., 75, of Kendallville died Thursday, January 21, 2021, in Kendallville.

He was born August 6, 1945, in Braddock, Pennsylvania, to James E. and Grace E. (Smith) Cook.

On March 12, 1966, at Camp Pendleton, California, he married Jean Ivanco.

He honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in Vietnam.

Mr. Cook retired from ITT Corp. in Fort Wayne where he worked in electronics communications. He also was a realtor with Orizon Realty in Kendallville for 13 years.

He and his wife moved to this area in April, 1999, coming from Fort Wayne.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville, American Legion Post 86, VFW Post 2749, and Kendallville Elks Lodge #1194.

Jim was an avid golfer and a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He dearly loved his family. Jim frequently said he enjoyed living in Kendallville and the small-town life where everyone was so friendly.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Cook of Kendallville; two sons, David Cook of Elkhart and Matthew (Kim) Cook of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren, Christina (James) Heine and Benjamin (Katelynn) Cook; and four great-grandchildren, Kayden, Raylan, Braden, and Lylah.

He was preceded in death by his birth father, James Cook; a sister, Blanche Hensler; two brothers, Thomas Cook and Jack Cook; and his grandparents, James and Grace Cook who adopted him.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 30, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.

Honor guard services will be provided by the Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation is Saturday, January 30, 2021, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park in Monroeville, Pennsylvania.

Preferred memorials may be directed to Wounded Warrior Project or to the Humane Society of Noble County.
