James R. "Jim" Bryant, 88, of Wolcottville died Sunday, July 24, 2016, at 1:20 a.m. in Lutheran Life Villages, Kendallville.
He was a lifetime area resident.
Mr. Bryant was a farmer. He also worked at McCray Refrigeration in Kendallville and retired from J.O. Mory in South Milford where he worked as an electrician and job estimator.
He was a member of the South Milford United Methodist Church. He was also a former member of the South Milford Lions Club and the IOOF in South Milford.
Jim enjoyed woodworking, ice fishing, and bowling. He loved farming and his John Deere tractors.
He was born October 2, 1927, in LaGrange County to Raymond and Alberta (Martin) Bryant.
On January 3, 1948, in South Milford he married Joan Smith. She survives in Wolcottville.
Also surviving are a daughter, Linda Roderick of Wolcottville; two sons, David (Pam) Bryant of Kendallville and Jeff (JoAnn) Bryant of Kendallville; seven grandchildren, Jenni (Chad) Lepley, Melanie (Rod) Beer, Rhonda (Kevin) Kendig, Cecelee (Chad) Shuck, Beverly Bryant, Tammy (Greg Barkley) Bryant, and Tim Bryant; 11 great-grandchildren, Coy (Ally) Lepley, Damon (Janeva Graber) Lepley, Makayla Lepley, Jordan Bryant, Joel (Samantha Stalter) Busche, Hannah Black, Bryant Walter, Austin Luckey, Brianna Beer, Emma Beer, Cale Beer; a great great-granddaughter, Joline Lepley; a step brother, Robert Bryant of Niantic, Connecticut; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Bryant of Kendallville; a brother-in-law, Lynn Halferty of South Milford and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gary Roderick; and two brothers, Harold Bryant and Billy Bryant.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 28, 2016, at 2 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Mike Antal of the South Milford United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the South Milford Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Coy Lepley, Damon Lepley, Chad Lepley, Rod Beer, Tim Bryant, and Greg Barkley.
Calling is Wednesday, July 27, 2016, from 2 to 6 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Preferred memorials are to the South Milford United Methodist Church, Parkview Noble Home Health, or Lutheran Life Villages.
