Obituary

James Edwin "Jim" "Bud" Britten, 83, of Kendallville died Monday, January 9, 2017, at 12:17 a.m. in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Britten had worked in maintenance at McCray Memorial Hospital in Kendallville for 11 years. He retired from the Noble County EMS after 25 years of service.

He honorably served in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville, F.&A.M. of Kendallville, Order of Eastern Star of Kendallville, Scottish Rite in Fort Wayne, Kendallville American Legion Post 86, and the Kendallville Windmill Museum.

Jim enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and playing cards. He also loved giving tours of the Windmill Museum.

He was born May 18, 1933, in Richmond to John R. and Onda M. (Chenowith) Britten.

On March 20, 1954, in Kendallville he married Luanne Johnson. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2005.

Surviving are two daughters, Debra (Randy) Sexton of Kendallville and Sara (Richard) Conrad of Kendallville; two sons, Jon Britten of Columbia City and William (Esther) Britten of Wawaka; Melvin Heiniger of Kendallville, who was as close as a son; 15 grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Sexton, Matthew Sexton, Tiffany Conrad, Kami Conrad, Jeremy Conrad, Stephen Britten, Kristina Britten, Zachery Britten, Colleen Britten, Alisha (Michael) McWilliams, Kearsten Britten, Bryanna Britten, Charles Romero, Alex Forrester, and Alyssa Lennard; and nine great grandchildren, Dylen Parker, Sidney Parker, Klover Sales, Aurelius Salazar, Edwin Britten, Stephen Britten, Jr., Emilynn Arnold, Braxton Lennard, and Delanie Lennard.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Warren Britten.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 14, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Rev. Donna Holcomb of the Helmer United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Active pallbearers will be Jon Britten, Bill Britten, Jeremy Conrad, Stephen Britten, Matthew Sexton, Charles Romero, and Zach Britten. Honorary pallbearers will be his remaining grandchildren and Myron Hutson.

Military graveside services will be provided by Kendallville VFW Post 2749, Rome City American Legion Post 381, Kendallville American Legion Post 86, and active duty members of the U.S. Navy.

Calling is Friday, January 13, 2017, from 2 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home where there will be an Order of Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m. Calling will also be one hour prior to the services on Saturday.

Preferred memorials are to the Kendallville Windmill Museum.
