Jack C. Duve, 79, of Wolcottville died Monday, December 3, 2007, at 5:06 pm in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. He has been in the hospital since August 30th.
A lifetime area resident, he attended the Wolcottville United Methodist Church. He was a truck driver for many years with North American Freight Lines in Fort Wayne. He later was in sales. He enjoyed water sports, poker, loved being a Grandpa, collecting coins, singing in the church choir, and was an artist and enjoyed making sculptures. He was a US Navy veteran, serving from 1945 to 1948. He was stationed on the USS Valley Forge and sailed around the world. He was a member of VFW Post 2749 in Kendallville and the Rome City American Legion Post 381.
He was born December 17, 1927, in Kendallville to Walter & Maude (Hendricks) Duve. He married Jane (Wilson) Whitehair in Wolcottville on May 14, 1987.
Surviving are his wife, Jane Whitehair Duve of Wolcottville; one daughter, Jill Meyer of LaOtto; one stepdaughter and her husband, Wanda & Marion Landers of Pretty Lake; two sons, Brad Duve of LaOtto and Hank Duve of Auburn; two stepsons and their wives, Sam & Vickie Bateman of Columbus, Indiana, and Don & Melanie Bateman of Wolcottville; six grandchildren, Matthew Duve, Christine Duve, Tana Duve, Ben Meyer, Andrew Meyer, and Nathan Meyer; 10 stepgrandchildren, Curt Landers, Robin Todd, Jack Landers, Chris Bateman, Heather Bateman, Chad Bateman, Kirk Bateman, Kristin Bateman, Brent Bateman, and Ryan Bateman; five great grandchildren; 13 step great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Glendys Thomas of St. Petersburg, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, George Duve; and two sisters, Jane Duve, who was his twin and died at birth, and Marjorie Duve.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 7, 2007, at 10:30 am at the Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville, Indiana, with Rev. Mike McKinney of the Rome City United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Wolcottville. Casketbearers will be Ben Meyer, Andrew Meyer, Nathan Meyer, Chris Bateman, Chad Bateman, and Curt Landers. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Rome City American Legion Post 381.
Visititation will be Thursday, December 6, 2007, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the Lions Eye Bank.
