Ivan L. Potter, 86, of Avilla died Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 7:30 a.m. in his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 20, 1931, in Ari to Ivan Ray and Pearl (Hinkley) Potter.
On December 5, 1953, in Avilla he married Beverly A. Hindenlang. She preceded him in death on July 15, 2000. Then, on December 17, 2004, in LaOtto he married Jane (Truelove) Lemmon. She survives at Avilla.
Mr. Potter served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.
He was a farmer and worked as a janitor at the Avilla School. He later worked at Peter Eckrich in Fort Wayne and retired from the Gas Company in Auburn.
He was a member of Avilla American Legion Post 240.
Also surviving are a daughter, Nancee S. Wentworth of Kendallville; two sons, Michael L. (Chris) Potter of Fort Wayne and David L. (Linda) Potter of Kendallville; eight grandchildren, Carmen Fredricks, Zachary Potter, Alisha Wentworth, Ashley Wentworth, Josh Treesh, Martina Potter, Alaina Potter, and Matthew Potter; and 13 great-grandchildren, Bailey, Reid, Lily, Stella, Lila, Will, Emma, Bo, Tyson, Braden, Aleayha, Caden, and Mason.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Leona Sage.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Jeremy Russell officiating. Burial will be in Hooper-King Cemetery, Avilla.
Calling is Monday, June 19, 2017, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Honor guard services will be provided by Avilla American Legion Post 240 and active duty members of the U.S. Army.
Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
