Ishmael Napier, 76, of Rome City, died Sunday, November 16, 2008, at 9:01 p.m. in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. He had been in failing health for six months.
Mr. Napier has lived in Rome City for 21 years, coming from Chicago. He was a truck driver for 34 years, and owner/operator for 18 years. After retirement he operated a taxi service for the Amish in the area. He had served as a deacon and usher at Moody Memorial Church in Chicago. He served in the U.S. Marines, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Fellowship Bible Church near Kendallville, and enjoyed sharing the Gospel with everyone he met.
He was born November 7, 1932, in Ary, Kentucky, to Sidney and Florence (Combs) Napier. On October 4, 1975, in Chicago, he married Emily Jean Stadick.
Surviving are his wife, Emily Jean Napier of Rome City; a son, Jesse S. Napier of Rome City; five grandchilren, Sidney, Emily, Whitney, Madeline, and Samantha; and a brother, Knox Napier of Louisville, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, John Stadick; six brothers, Charles Napier, Shafter Napier, Elmer Napier, Sidney Napier, Roger Napier, and Cleon Napier; and three sisters, Jacqueline Napier, Ola Fay Kline, and Onita Napier.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 20, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Fellowship Bible Church, 4459 E 800 N, Kendallville, with Pastor Tom Dyson officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Knox Napier, Ronnie Williams, Robbie Napier, Mickey Holliday, Sidney Napier, and Jesse Napier. Military graveside services will be conducted by Kendallville VFW Post 2749.
Calling will be Wednesday, November 19, 2008, from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville, and on Thursday one hour prior to services at the church.
Preferred memorials are to the Fellowship Bible Church.
