Obituary

Iris Ilene Morr, 75, of Kendallville died Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at 10:18 p.m. in the home of her daughter, Babs Diehm of Kendallville.

She was born August 13, 1942, in Kendallville to Henry O. and Ilene I. (Hart) Mock.

Iris was born and raised in the Kendallville area. She attended Kendallville schools through the 8th grade, after which her parents moved to DeKalb County where she finished school and graduated in 1961 from Ashley High School.

On March 10, 1962, in Ashley she married Delbert Earl Morr. The love of her life for 43 years preceded her in death on April 25, 2008.

Through the years, she lived in several locations in the area, including Kendallville, DeKalb County, Wolcottville, and Rome City.

During her life, she held a variety of jobs, including waitressing, car-hop at Kelsey's Drive-In, ticket sales at the Strand and Hi Vue theaters, retail sales at Lord's Dress Shop and J.C. Penney's, production work at Kraft Foods, Group Dekko companies, Tokheim in Albion for 15 years, and No-Sag Products for 15 years where she started as the receptionist and worked her way up to retiring as the purchasing manager. Through the years, if asked about her education, Iris would proudly reply, "I graduated from Ashley High School. I have a degree in common sense from the School of Hard Knocks."

In 2010, after retirement and the loss of her husband, she purchased the old GMP Union Hall north of Kendallville. Along with her daughters, she converted it into The Iris Garden Event and Catering Center. Her desire was to provide a nice place where the working people of the area could afford to celebrate their special events. She loved interacting with people through work or social events. If Iris is remembered for anything, she would wish it to be the way she loved her husband, family, and friends, her unique personality and sense of humor, and the way she tried to treat all people with courtesy and respect.

Surviving are three daughters, Beth Ann (Bruce) Newman of South Milford, Babs Ann (Michael) Diehm of Kendallville, and Brenda Ann (Larry) Gayheart of Rome City; six grandchildren, Brian Newman, Brooke (Anthony) Randol, Mitchell (Judi Kuffer) Diehm, Cameron Diehm, Morreen (Ricky Powers) Gayheart, and Odessa Gayheart; five great-grandchildren, Bret, Ethan, Newt, Ellie, and Kali; and a brother, William (Sharon) Mock of Kendallville.

Funeral services will be Sunday, August 27, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Vance Hamlin and Pastor Regan Ford officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City.

Pallbearers will be Brian Newman, Anthony Randol, Mitchell Diehm, Cameron Diehm, Ricky Powers, and Michael Sanchez.
