Local businessman, Homer I. Shultz, 87, of Wolcottville died unexpectedly Saturday, January 15, 2011, in his residence. Mr. Shultz, a lifetime area resident, was the owner and operator of the Wolcottville Grain Company in Wolcottville for 65 years.
He was a member of the Wolcottville Lions Club and attended Woodruff Grove United Methodist Church. He obtained his pilot's license and enjoyed flying his own airplaine. He was a Boy Scout leader in Wolcottville for a number of years.
He was born April 16, 1923, in Howe to Irvin and Edna (Young) Shultz. In July of 1947, he married Gladys J. Wells. She preceded him in death on February 9, 1964. He then married Norma E. Hayward on December 18, 1965.
Surviving are his wife, Norma E. Shultz of Wolcottville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Daniel F. Troyer of LaGrange and Betty and Walter Ibbotson of Lakewood, Colorado; three sisters-in-law, Juen Shultz of Angola, Regate Shultz of Howe, and Miriam Shultz of Wolcottville; a brother-in-law, Virgil Waltz of South Bend; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, William Shultz, Allen Shultz, and Ralph Shultz; and a sister, Kathryn Waltz.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. in the Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville, with Rev. Carldean Merrifield officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Nicholas and Tom Shultz. Active pallbearers will be Rex Shultz, Gale Shultz, Tim Shultz, Mark Shultz, Blake Shultz, Andy Green, and Jeremy Green.
Calling is Tuesday, January 18, 2011, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the Woodruff Grove United Methodist Church or to the Boy Scouts.
