Hershel Handshoe, 82, of Rome City, Indiana died Sunday, August 25, 2024, at his residence surrounded by family.

He was born February 12, 1942, in Handshoe, Kentucky to Floyd and Dollie (Griffith) Handshoe.

On January 12, 1964, in Sturgis, Michigan he married Margaret Dawson.

Hershel retired from Ashland Oil in Ashland, Kentucky.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bringing home animals he had rescued.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Margaret Handshoe of Rome City; two sons, Hershel Edward (Alicia) Handshoe of Stroh and David Lee (Wini) Handshoe of Arizona; four grandchildren, Keisha Boyer of Kendallville, Sheila Campbell of Rome City, Matt (Megan) Handshoe of Kendallville, and Tabitha (Chris) Pratt of Portsmouth, Ohio; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arnold Handshoe of Hueysville, Kentucky and Johnny (Linda) Handshoe of LaGrange; and a sister, Trudy (Bill) McClish of Hudson.

Hershel was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marlana Handshoe in 2010; five brothers, Cledis Handshoe, Buford Handshoe, Herman Handshoe, Therman Handshoe, and Daniel Handshoe; and a sister, Reva Livergood.

Funeral services will be Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville.

Burial will follow in Wright Cemetery near Hudson.

Casketbearers will be Johnny Handshoe, Bill McClish, Hunter Mitchell, Matt Handshoe, Coen Downing, Tison Smead, Brandon McClish, and Jim Tuttle.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with an evening service at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, August 29, 2024 beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service all at the funeral home.
