Herman L. Campbell, 78, of Wawaka died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at 9:45 a.m. at his residence.
Mr. Campbell had moved to this area in 1956, coming from Kentucky. While in Kentucky, he had worked at a lumber mill. He retired in 1992, after 38 years at No-Sag in Kendallville. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army. He was a member of Community Baptist Church near Wolcottville.
He was born January 29, 1930, in Cornettsville, Kentucky, to Culbert & Vera (Dixon) Campbell. On May 15, 1954, in Hazard, Kentucky, he married Cannie Mae Smith. She survives in Wawaka.
Also surviving are two daughters, Yolanda Hochstetler of Wawaka and Cannie Corinne "Cori" Campbell of Albion; four grandchildren, Ronnie Shane Campbell of Topeka, Christopher H. Boyles of Kendallville, Diana Hochstetler of Wawaka, and Cannie Corinne Campbell of Albion; two great grandchildren, Christopher Shane Slone and Nicholas Stone Slone; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mildred Adams of Wawaka, Opal and Paul Harper of Kendallville, and Bernice and James Smith of Cornettsville, Kentucky; and three brothers, Elzie and Tish Campbell of Wawaka, Glenn and Maxine Campbell of Rome City, and Mearle and Lyda Campbell of Cornettsville, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sandra Faye (Campbell) Barkdull in 1980; two sons, Ronnie Lee Campbell in 1978 and Eugene Campbell at birth; and a brother, Lloyd Campbell.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 3, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Community Baptist Church near Wolcottville with Rev. Lee Combs officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery with graveside services conducted by American Legion Post 381, Rome City.
Calling is Friday, May 2, 2008, after 2 p.m. at the church with evening services at 7 p.m.
