Herbert Daniel Hauenstein, 80, of Corinth, Texas, and formerly of Kendallville died Sunday, June 7, 2009, in his residence.

Mr. Hauenstein had moved to Indiana from Germany in 1952. In 1983, he moved to Oklahoma, and has resided in Texas since 2002. He had been a tool and dye maker for 60 years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Machinists Union, and was a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts for 17 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War.

He was born August 10, 1928, in Germany to Ludwig and Anna (Stoner) Hauenstein. On September 15, 1970, in Kendallville he married Mary Ann Burger. She preceded him in death on February 13, 1990.

Surviving are a son, John Hauenstein, and his fiance, Tremble Francher, both of Corinth, Texas; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Hauenstein; and a sister, Ursula Ahl of Hope Mills, North Carolina.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 11, 2009, at 2 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Rev. Stan Kessler of the First Presbyterian Church in Kendallville officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Military graveside services will be provided by VFW Post 2749, Kendallville.

Calling is Thursday, June 11, 2009, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
