Obituary

Henry John Eickholtz, 73, of Kendallville died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, January 8, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Eickholtz moved to Noble County in 1972, coming from Charlestown, Indiana. He retired in 1998 after 37 years as an Environmental Health Specialist with the Indiana State Board of Health. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville, was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as Past Grand Knight, and a member of the Environmental Health Association. He graduated from St. Xavier High School in Louisville, KY in 1954, Purdue University in 1958 with a degree in Agriculture, and received his Masters Degree in 1962 from the University of Michigan.

He enjoyed his grandchildren, deer hunting, woodworking, farming, and was a member of the Harvest House Band, playing the guitar and harmonica.

He was born April 1, 1934, in Charlestown, Indiana, to John Henry & Anna May (Schafer) Eickholtz. On June 6, 1959, he married Barbara Gehring in Lafayette.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Eickholtz of Kendallville; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom & Emily Eickholtz of Kendallville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl & Greg Krueckeberg of Lafayette and Karen & Kevin High of Kalamazoo, Michigan; six grandchildren, Ryan Krueckeberg , Kelly Krueckeberg, Elaine Eickholtz, Alex Eickholtz, Collin High, and Clayton High; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank & Ann Marie Eickholtz, Leonard & Carolyn Eickholtz, Raymond & Juliann Eickholtz all of Charlestown, Richard & Pat Eickholtz of Clayton, and Denis & Phyllis Eickholtz of Sellersburg; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Clara & Don Calvert of Jeffersonville, Dorothy Dunn of Crawfordsville, Agnes Withers of Louisville, Kentucky, Rita & Don Hamerla of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, and Mary & Tom Shields of Greenville; 50 nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Don Gehring of Indianapolis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 11, 2008, at 11 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville with Rev. Jacob Gall officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Charlestown. Casketbearers will be Ryan Krueckeberg, Hal Barker, Leonard Eickholtz, Richard Eickholtz, Raymond Eickholtz, Kelly Krueckeberg, and Elaine Eickholtz.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 10, 2008, from 3-8 pm at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, where Rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm. Preferred memorials are to Life & Family Services, Common Grace, or masses to the church.
