Obituary

Helen Reith Mountz, 94, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Kendallville, passed away Monday, October 15, 2018, at Sage Bluff Nursing and Rehab Center in Fort Wayne.

She was born April 26, 1924, in Kendallville to Floyd L. and Estella (Bertsch) Reith.

Helen attended St. John's Lutheran grade school and graduated from Kendallville High School with the class of 1942.

On September 22, 1945, she married Omar Edward Mountz. They celebrated 46 years of marriage before his death in 1991.

Helen was a life-time member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville where she was a member of the Women's Guild and also served as financial secretary.

She was a former Girl Scout Leader, member of Sigma Beta Sorority, Lady Elks, a Blood Mobile volunteer, and a member of the 1942 Bridge Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah (Dr. Robert) Arnold of Fort Wayne; son, Craig (Sandra) Mountz of Brentwood, Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Mountz of Kendallville; brother, Floyd "Bud" Reith of Fort Wayne; three nieces; three nephews; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Betty Moore; son, Jeffrey Mountz; and life-long friends, Lois Owen and Lawrence Pankop.

Her church, family, and friends, brought her the greatest joy in life.

The family would like to thank Sage Bluff and Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 19, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Randy Glander of St. John Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Calling is Friday, October 19, 2018, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or Heartland Hospice.
