Private services ************************************************************************** Helen Marie Grossman, 90, of Kendallville died Monday, September 9, 2013, at her residence with her daughter and son-in-law, Justine and Lynn Garrison, at her side.

She graduated from Kendallville High School in 1942.

From 1946 to 1980, she and her husband owned and operated Grossman's Hardware in Wolcottville. They moved to Florida in 1980 and in 2001 returned to Kendallville.

Mrs. Grossman was a member of Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville. She taught Sunday school at the Wolcottville United Methodist Church in Wolcottville.

Helen enjoyed fishing, square dancing, and her grandchildren.

She was born July 10, 1923, in Angola, Indiana, to Ursell Cox Sr. and Helen Markovitz Holmes Cox. On January 25, 1942, in Decatur she married William Mac Grossman. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2012.

Surviving are a son, William John and Brenda Grossman of Mableton, Georgia; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Nancy Jones of Fort Myers, Florida, Phyllis M. and Daniel Brothers of Sturgis, Michigan, and Justine and Lynn Garrison of Kendallville; 10 grandchildren, Mike and Candy Grossman, Heather Henderson, Ernest and Kaonna Blowers, Pati and John May, Susan and Dale Large, James and Kelaine Brothers, Kathryn Currier, Michelle and Tom Hague, Vicki and Andy Coats, and Lynn M. and Janie Garrison; a stepgrandchild, Cindy and Butch Ohner; 27 great-grandchildren, Jeff Gouker, Felicia Grossman, Andrea Grossman, Loreta Jo Henderson, Jason Blowers, Amanda VanZile, Logan May, Ariel May, Katie Large, Meaghan Large, Alex Large, Courtney St Louis, Austin St Louis, Shyanna Brothers, Reaundra Brothers, Sienna Brothers, Calyssa Brothers, Alanah Brothers, Mileah Brothers, Kyliana Brothers, Owen Hague, Christina Coats, Isaac Coats, Jacob Coats, Rayanna Garrison, Addison Garrison and Jalynn Garrison; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Robbie Hiles and McKenzie Ohner; seven great-great-grandchildren, Landon Marsh, Bella Blowers, Kathryn Blowers, Emre VanZile, Jackson VanZile, Lilly Ann Hiles and Julianna Hiles; a stepsister, Pat and Dick Shoner of Danville, California; a half sister, Rev. Margaret and Arch Page of San Diego, California; a special family friend, Helen Baird; and the family cat, Precious.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Madge Cox; an infant son, James Mac Grossman; a brother, Ursell Cox; and a son-in-law, Frank Jones.

Private funeral services were held Thursday, September 12, 2013, in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 S. State St., Kendallville, with the Rev. G. Scott Pattison of Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery in Wolcottville.

Honorary casketbearers were John Grossman, Nancy Jones, Phyllis Brothers, Justine Garrison and Lynn Garrison. Active casketbearers were Daniel Brothers, Lynn M. Garrison, Tom Hague, Andy Coats, Ernest Blowers and Mike Grossman.

Preferred memorials are to the Noble County Humane Shelter and may be sent to the funeral home.
