November 8, 1935 – March 11, 2025
Harold Dean Smith, 89, of Hudson, Indiana, died Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Cameron Memorial Hospital in Angola.
He was born at home on November 8, 1935, in LaGrange County, Indiana, to Paul E. and Blanche (Hose) Smith.
On June 6, 1954, at Zion Lutheran Church, West Fairfield he married Patricia Holsinger.
Mr. Smith retired as a repairman for Sears in Fort Wayne.
Harold enjoyed being in a card group playing euchre and fishing. His years of experience as a repairman made him an expert at fixing just about anything. He made announcements at the Prairie Heights Farm Fest and loved farming and antique tractors. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Patricia Smith of Hudson; three sons, Roger D. (Shelly) Smith of Orland, Rick D. Smith of Hudson, and Rory E. (Lila) Smith of Hudson; ten grandchildren, Carla (Jeremy Lash) Betcke, Michael (Richelle) Smith, Matthew (Sara) Smith, Ricky Brandon (Angie) Smith, Kyle Smith, Julie (Channing) Szapkiw, Lisa (Chad) Wise, Zayne Smith, Wyatt Smith, and Vanelope Smith; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Smith, Jr.; a sister, Pauline Worden; and a great-grandson.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Hudson-Ashley Chapel, 612 North Main Street, Hudson and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 17, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Helmer Community Church in Helmer with Pastor Donna Holcomb officiating.
Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Michael Smith, Matthew Smith, Ricky Smith, Kyle Smith, Eric Worden, and Chris Lochamire.
Memorials may be directed to the Helmer Community Church.
