Obituary

Harold Sylvester Hoffelder was born June 19, 1932, passed away peacefully June 25, 2026, at age 94. Surrounded by his loving family at home in Kendallville, Indiana.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents Fred P. and Thelma (Mays) Hoffelder and his siblings, Laura Mae Coleman, Catherine Hoffelder, Clifford “Buddy” Hoffelder, Mary Jane Double, Olive Conrad, Betty Fletcher, Barbara Schwarz.

Harry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley (Chrisman) Hoffelder; two sons Kevin (Tammy) Hoffelder of Wolcottville and Jim (Jill) Hoffelder of Kendallville; six grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Minning, Jaryn Hoffelder, Jake (Hannah) Dunno, Derrick (Tricia) Hoffelder, Darin Hoffelder, and Austin (Sofia) Hoffelder; three great-grandchildren, Aislyn, Devon, and Hailey; his siblings, Dorothy Jones of Bluffton, Sally Parman of Deltona, Florida, and Tom Hoffelder of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

Harry graduated from Kendallville High School in 1950. He was a very good baseball pitcher and was known to his buddies as Sy. He enjoyed life and had a great sense of humor, always ready with a joke or good story. He liked sports, fishing, and hunting, but loved spending time with the family the most. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great friend. He was a lifelong resident of Kendallville where he worked in various industries.

There will be a private family celebration of life at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville with Father J. Steele officiating.

Burial will follow at Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville.

The family would like to thank the medical people who cared for Harry, and the hospice people who helped him in his final days.
