Service: Tuesday, June 3, 2014 - 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel

Calling: Monday, June 2, 2014 - 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Tuesday ******************************************************************************************* Harold O. "Salty" Casselman, 88, of Kendallville died Friday, May 30, 2014, in Miller's Merry Manor, Garrett following a short illness.

He was a lifetime area resident.

Mr. Casselman honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1953.

Salty retired after 38 years as a mechanic for Hilkert & Pankop Dodge in Kendallville.

He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Kendallville. He was also a member of Kendallville Eagles Lodge 985, Kendallville VFW Post 2749, and a 50-year member of the Kendallville American Legion Post 86.

Salty enjoyed downhill skiing until the age of 82. He loved living on the lake, enjoying fishing in summer and ice skating in the winter. He also enjoyed woodworking and ballroom dancing with his wife. And, most recently, he enjoyed spending Tuesday's with his friends.

He was born June 26, 1925, in DeKalb County to Walter and Reba (Vian) Casselman.

On December 23, 1950, in Kendallville he married Joyce M. Fritz. She preceded him in death on October 1, 2002.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Tana and Gary Franklin of Wawaka; a grandson and his wife, Bradley and Angie Franklin of Kimmell; two great-grandchildren, Oliver Franklin and Kaylee Morris; a sister and her fiancé, Nancy Streich and Ron Burtch of Kendallville; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Judy Casselman of Decatur.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Terry L. Casselman on July 25, 2001; a sister, Lorraine Beights; and three brothers, Doyne Casselman, Rex Casselman, and Dick Casselman.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Dan Carlson of the Wolf Lake Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Honor guard services will be provided by Kendallville VFW Post 2749, Rome City American Legion Post 381, and Kendallville American Legion Post 86.

Calling is Monday, June 2, 2014, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Preferred memorials are to American Legion Post 86 or the Humane Society of Noble County.
