Obituary

Harold R. Barkdull, Sr., 77, of Wolcottville died Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at 12:49 am in Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Florida, where he had been a patient since Thursday.

Mr. Barkdull retired in 1989 as a Tool and Die Maker with General Motors Corp. He graduated from Spiceland High School in 1950, and proudly served in the United States Air Force. He moved to Wolcottville in 1967. For many years, he and his wife spent the winters at Lake Hamilton in Haines City, Florida, and the summers at Witmer Lake in Wolcottville, Indiana. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and fishing.

He was born September 10, 1930, in New Castle, Indiana, to Raymond and Ruhle (Sears) Barkdull. On April 29, 1960, in Alexandra, Indiana, he married Betty J. Reed.

Surviving are his wife, Betty J. Barkdull of Wolcottville; one daughter, Trudi Meyer of Wolcottville; five sons, Michael Quinn of Ligonier, Jack Quinn of Ligonier, Randy Barkdull of Middle Town, Indiana, Robin Barkdull of Fort Wayne and Harold Barkdull, Jr. of Wolcottville; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Barkdull, and his mother, Ruhle Bush.

Services will be Thursday, February 14, 2008, at 11:00 am at the Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville, with Rev. Carldean Merrifield officiating. Burial will be in Wooland Cemetery, Wolcottville.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 13, 2008, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
