Hance Hicks, 83, of Ashley died Friday, December 29, 2017, at 9:15 a.m. at Miller's Merry Manor, Garrett.
He was born April 9, 1934, in Garrett, Kentucky, to Sam and Rhodie (Ramey) Hicks.
On December 18, 2008, in Ashley he married Roberta D. "Bobbi" (Parker) Dennison Richards. She survives in Ashley.
Mr. Hicks honorably served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War and the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Vietnam. He served a total of 30 years in the military.
He then worked at Foamex in Auburn and retired from MCI Telecommunication, where he completed the electrical work for the railroad overpass in Garrett.
Hance was a member of the Independent Full Gospel Church in Ashley and was a lifetime member of the Kendallville VFW Post 2749.
Also surviving are a daughter, Donna (Bruce) McGwen of Yalaha, Florida; two sons, Eugene (Sandy) Hicks of Jacksonville, Florida, and John (Donna) Hicks of Eutawville, South Carolina; a stepdaughter, Rebekah Swager of Fremont; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Amber, Amy, Micah, Mariah, Andrea, and Michael; two step grandchildren, Jason (Trish) Swager and Tanya Swager; 11 great-grandchildren, Parker, Emma, Cariton, Hayton, Hailee, Lila, Jeff, Barry, Tyler, Zion, and Zyada; seven step great-grandchildren, Rebecca Ann, Brooklynn, Lucas Shane, Dominic, Noah, Brianna, and Emily; six sisters, Fristeen Ogie of Virginia, Faye Centers of Ohio, Roxie (Al) Porter of Corunna, Bonnie Lee (Ralph) DePew of Florida, Barbara Ellen Woodward of Auburn, and Peggy Bolden of West Virginia; a brother, Leon Micheal (Sally) Hicks of Kendallville; the mother of his children, Lola of Florida; his second wife, Elouise of Florida; and his third wife, Loyce of Kendallville.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Ancil Eugene, Esadora, Susie Louis, Dixie, Wanita, Jackson Ray, and Axely "Tootie"; and a step great-granddaughter, Kaylee.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the Independent Full Gospel Church, 1000 South Gonser Avenue, Ashley with Pastor Sam Weimer officiating. Burial will be in the Corunna Cemetery.
Honor guard services will be provided by Kendallville VFW Post 2749, Rome City American Legion Post 381, Kendallville American Legion Post 86, and active duty members of the U.S. Navy.
Calling is Tuesday, January 9, 2018, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
Preferred memorials are to Miller's Merry Manor in Garrett, DART Transportation in Auburn, or to the Independent Full Gospel Church of Ashley.
