Green Gayheart, Jr.

Green Gayheart, Jr. 74, of Howe, Indiana died Monday, June 22, 2026, at Parkview LaGrange Hospital in LaGrange.

He was born August 14, 1951 in McDowell, Floyd County, Kentucky to Green Gayheart, Sr. and Helen (Mosley) Gayheart.

He married Cynthia E. Johnson on December 23, 1983, in Ontario. She preceded him in death on June 9, 2013. He then married Donna (Moore) Shufelt on April 27, 2014 in LaGrange. She survives in Howe.

Green had attended New Freedom Baptist Church in LaGrange.

Before retiring, he worked in RV manufacturing, first at Fan Coach in LaGrange and later at Coachmen in Middlebury. He took pride in the work he did and the people he met along the way.

He loved working on cars and was always in the middle of some project around the house. He was happiest outside, especially when he was camping. And he could really cook — his meals were always something everyone looked forward to.

Also surviving are two daughters, Nicole (Bob) Bond of Howe and Helena Gayheart of Howe; two sons, Justin Gayheart of Howe and Josh (Catie) Gayheart of LaGrange; a stepson, Bradley (Yvonne) Johnson of Howe; stepdaughter-in-law, Kim Johnson of Howe; seven grandchildren, Scotlyn Gayheart, Jett Gayheart, Aspen Bond, Ryker Bond, Jeremy Johnson, Timothy Johnson, and Brandon Johnson; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Esta Faye Moore of Howe and Fanny Taylor of Sunset, Arizona; and a brother, Estell Ray (Nola) Gayheart of Willard, Ohio.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, Barry Ray Johnson; two sisters, Forest Jean and Hester; a brother, Chester; and a stepbrother, Dolphia.

Private graveside services will be at Ontario Cemetery in Howe.
