IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gordon Elwood
Parr
March 4, 1948 – February 24, 2025
Gordon Elwood Parr, 76, of Salem Center, died on February 24, 2025. He was born to Elwood and Louise Parr (Degraw) of Stroh on March 4, 1948.
His early days were spent working on the family farm before being drafted into the US Army and deployed to Vietnam, where he served as a doorgunner for the 71st Assault Helicopter Company, based in Chu Lai between 1969-1970.
Upon returning home, he resumed farming, alongside a variety of factory and construction jobs, while raising a family.
He will be greatly missed by three daughters, Rachel Scheidler (Andy) of Pretty Lake, Erica Parr (Manny Villanueva) of Pretty Lake, and Amanda Parr-Newton (Derrick) of Nevis, West Indies, as well as five grandchildren Nathan Scheidler (Parand), Lindsey Scheidler, Maribel Villanueva, Emme Villanueva, and Sadie Villanueva. And of course, his loyal best friend, Hub.
Gordon will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, work ethic, and rebellious spirit. He had an insatiable sweet tooth, loved Harley Davidson motorcycles, and mushroom hunting on his property. He also enjoyed following sports, especially the Big 10 conference. He had a curiosity of the paranormal and liked to gaze into the mystery of the night sky. He intuitively gravitated to life off the grid and had an impressive knack for self-sufficiency. His farm is his proud legacy. He passionately valued fundamental principles like honor, justice, authenticity, and being a good neighbor. Despite his maverick personality, at his core was an endearing softness enjoyed by a privileged few who knew his heart.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Salem Center fire department on March 22, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 4 :00 p.m.
