Geraldine L. Witham, 79, of Rome City, Indiana died Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was born October 20, 1944, in Kendallville to Emanuel C. "Buck" and Wanetta (Brown) Cook. They preceded her in death.
She was a 1962 graduate of Rome City High School.
She married Ralph E. Witham on November 10, 1963, in Brimfield. He preceded her in death on August 16, 1998.
Mrs. Witham had worked at PN Hirsch Dime Store, Fisher's Pharmacy, Midwest Molding, Belmont Department Store, and Uniform Printing all in Kendallville. She retired from Rome City Elementary School as a preschool teacher's aide.
She was a lifetime member of Brimfield United Methodist Church.
Geraldine enjoyed reading, doing word search and jigsaw puzzles, antiquing, gardening and canning, cleaning, playing euchre and solitaire, going to Linton's Enchanted Gardens in Elkhart, singing with her family at nursing homes in her younger years, and spending time with her family. She was a "social butterfly" and loved being with people.
Surviving are a daughter, Jodie Shepherd of Garrett; two sons, Ronald (Jana Gallmeyer) Witham of Kendallville and Daniel Witham of Rome City; four grandchildren, John (Whitney) Witham of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Deane Witham of Fort Wayne, Jacob (Valencia) Shepherd of Garrett, and Lucas Nern, stationed with the U.S. Army in Monterey, California; three sisters, Inez Mynhier of Wawaka, Carolyn DePew of Rome City, and Sandra Kelley of Jones, Michigan; a brother, Ernest (Janet) Cook of Wawaka; and two brothers-in-law, Jim Walters of Kendallville and Tim Oesch of Topeka.
She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Patsy Adams, Edith Sprandel, Ruth Rupert, and Beverly Oesch.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville.
Graveside services at Orange Cemetery near Rome City will also be on Thursday, June 13, 2024, immediately following the visitation at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Brimfield United Methodist Church.
