Geraldine L. Garton Kimmerly, 91, of Kendallville and formerly of Rome City died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at 1:55 p.m. in Lutheran Life Villages, Kendallville.
She had lived on Kerr Island, Rome City, for 50 years, coming from Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Garton Kimmerly retired from General Electric in Fort Wayne.
She was a past matron of the Eastern Star and a life member of the Rome City American Legion Post 381 Auxiliary.
Geraldine enjoyed collecting stuffed animals. She loved to fish, cook, and spend time with her family. She adored her grandchildren and was a loving mother and grandmother.
She was born April 28, 1920, in Fort Wayne to Clyde A. and Blanche (Dudley) Burton. She married Wayne T. Garton Sr. He preceded her in death. She was also married to Fred G. Kimmerly Sr., and he preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Boyles of Rome City and Kathleen Blotkamp of Rome City; a son, Wayne T. (Connie) Garton Jr. of Rome City; a stepdaughter, Sherry (Earl) Coe of Wabash; a stepson, Fred G. (Debbie) Kimmerly Jr. of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; five step grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Zurbrick and Kathryn L. Layton; a brother, Clyde Burton Jr.; and a son-in-law, David Boyles.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 8, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, S.R. 9 North, Wolcottville, with Pastor Lewis Stier of Lutheran Life Villages officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery. Honorary pallbearer is Jim Gallup. Active pallbearers will be Rob Boyles, Todd Boyles, Nick Garton, Clayton Dilts, Bill Fee and Chuck Drerup.
Calling is Wednesday, March 7, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. An Eastern Star service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to the Rome City American Legion Post 381 Auxiliary.
