Gerald Eugene Herron, 80, of Kendallville died Wednesday, May 5, 2010, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Mr. Herron was a lifetime area resident. He had earned a degree in Diesel Engine Repair and Refrigeration. He retired in 1991 from Newnam Foundry in Kendallville, after 46 years of service as an inspector.
He loved spending time with his family, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially enjoyed spending time at the log cabin he built at Royer Lake. He also rescued all stray animals, with a special love for raising orphaned skunks.
He was born September 17, 1929, in LaOtto, to Esta and Beatrice (Reinoehl) Herron. On August 13, 1949, in Kendallville he married Beulah Crager.
Surviving are his wife, Beulah Herron of Kendallville; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Randy Ray of Fort Wayne; a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Natalie Herron of Kendallville; five grandchildren, Christy and Rick Bradley of Huntertown, Michael John Herron and his fiance, Taryn of Kendallville, Sonnie and Eric Lamb of California, John Gabriel Herron of Kendallville, and Kelley Lash of Angola; four great grandchildren, Peyton Parker of Huntertown, Andrew Morr of Huntertown, Carter Morr of Huntertown, and McKenna Derck of Angola; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Agnes Mead of Kendallville, Dora Shephard of Kendallville, Shirley and Oscar Monroe of Wolcottville, and Sandy and Sam Weimer of Corunna; and a brother, Jim Herron and his fiance, Renae of Kendallville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Retha Herron; a brother, Charles Herron; and a granddaughter, Sarah Herron.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Pastor Mike Albaugh officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery, Corunna.
Calling will be Friday, May 7, 2010, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
