Geneva Christenia Kimmell, 93, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Kendallville died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at 4:45 p.m. in The Towne House, Fort Wayne.
Miss Kimmell was a graduate of Ball State University. She was a teacher for 40 years, retiring in 1978. She taught second grade in Kendallville from February 1943, to May, 1978, with most of this being at North Side School.
She had moved to Kendallville in February, 1943, from Alexandria. In August, 1998, she moved to The Towne House in Fort Wayne.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kendallville, where she was a member of the Church Circle. She was also a member and past president of Tri Kappa, Business and Professional Womens Club, Noble County Retired Teachers Association, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, National Retired Teachers Association, DAR, and a life member of National Educators Association.
She was born August 7, 1915, in Wolf Lake to Henry I. and Maude M. (Thomas) Kimmell.
Surviving is a great nephew, Col. Scott D. Kimmell of Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Retta Geiger in 1996; a brother, Thomas H. Kimmell in 1984; a nephew, David Kimmell in 1982; and her beloved dog, Mitzi in 2008.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 11, 2009, at 11 a.m in the Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Rev. Stan Kessler of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Lake Cemetery.
Calling will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are the First Presbyterian Church in Kendallville.
