Gene Browand, 83, of Kendallville died Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 9:15 a.m. in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
He retired in 1991 after 26 years with Kraft Foods in Kendallville.
Gene was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post #86, Kendallville.
He was a Ham Radio Operator and went by the code of "K9RGY". He greatly loved his animals.
He was born May 5, 1929, in Kendallville to George Frederick and Martha (Snellenberger) Browand. On May 28, 1948, in Fort Wayne he married E. Ann Richards. She preceded him in death on April 28, 2006.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Ron Mellott of Kendallville; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry Dean and Lori Browand of Kendallville; eight grandchildren, Cory Mellott, Amy Worsham, Scott Mellott, Cassandra Mitchell, Connie Browand, Jeremy Church, Stephanie Barry, and Ammie Mellott; and 12 great grandchildren, Madison Mellott, Brooklyn Mellott, Christian Mellott, Rylee Worsham, Selena Mitchell, Hayley Mitchell, Nora Church, Miranda Hunley, Dylan Hunley, Cain Smith, and Kennedy Barry.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 15, 2012, at 2 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville. Honor guard services will be provided by Kendallville VFW Post 2749 and Rome City American Legion Post 381.
Pallbearers will be Scott Mellott, Cory Mellott, Ryan Worsham, David Mitchell, Larry Browand, and Jeremy Church.
Calling is Thursday, June 14, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Friday.
Preferred memorials are to Noble County Humane Shelter, 1305 South Sherman Street, Kendallville, Indiana, 46755.
