Gearldene "Jewel" Wallen, 83, of Jones Lake, Rome City went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
She was born April 26, 1935, in Knott County, Kentucky, to Edgar "Ed" and Ethel (Hays) Terry.
On June 22, 1951, in Vest, Kentucky, she married Burley Wallen. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1996.
Mrs. Wallen was a homemaker. She attended Hilltop Baptist Church in Rome City.
Jewel enjoyed gardening, fishing, sewing, and cooking. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are three daughters, Gearldine Gannon of Rome City, Brenda Wallen of Kendallville and Jody Wallen of Kendallville; four sons, Donald (Vickie) Wallen of Wawaka, David (Lorie Vosburgh) Wallen of Wolcottville, Dallas Wallen of Rome City and Bobby Wallen of Rome City.
She also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Jeremy (Josie) Wallen, Nathan Wallen, Naomi (Keith) Wooten, Peggy Gannon, Adrian and Michael (Lindsay Owsley) Reidenbach, Julie (Tony) Johnson, Summer Tilbury; and 13 great-grandchildren: Casey, Lauren, Megan, Chase, Lynnsey, Mayson, Haylie, Caidence, and Nattalyn Wallen; Micka Christian, Reese and Amelia May Reidenbach, and Bristol Johnson. Also surviving is her sister, Julie Shepherd of David, Kentucky; and a special nephew, Kevin Wade of Columbia City.
Also preceding her in death were a son, Charles Wallen; a daughter, Charlene Wallen; and three sisters, Jackie Johnson, Johnny Fuller and Joyce Terry
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville with Pastor Johnny Huff of Hilltop Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Brushy Chapel Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearer is Kevin Wade. Active pallbearers are Jeremy Wallen, Nathan Wallen, Adrian Reidenbach, Michael Reidenbech, Mason Wallen, and Tony Johnson.
Calling is Tuesday, October 23, 2018, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
